Introduction

Grove ("the app") is made by Compilery Software LLC. We respect your privacy. This policy explains what information Grove collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. It covers the Grove app on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, as well as the website at grovebooktracker.com.

Data stored on your device

Your library, reading sessions, quotes, thoughts, and goals are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This information stays on your device and is not sent to our servers. Unless you enable iCloud sync, it never leaves your device.

iCloud sync (Premium)

If you subscribe to Grove Premium and choose to enable sync, your data is synced through your own private Apple iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit technology. Your data is stored in your personal iCloud storage — not on our servers — and we cannot access it.

Backups

Because your data is stored on your device and, with Premium, in your own iCloud, you are responsible for keeping your own backups. We do not hold a copy of your data and cannot recover or restore it for you. Backing up your device to iCloud or your computer will include your Grove data, letting you restore it on a new or reset device.

Book information lookups

When you search for a book or scan a barcode, the title, author, or ISBN you provide is sent to third-party book databases to retrieve book details and cover images. These services are:

Importing and exporting your data

If you import a library from a Goodreads CSV file, the file is read and processed entirely on your device — it is not uploaded to us. If you export your data, the exported file is created on your device and is shared only where you choose to send it.

On-device camera features

Barcode scanning and quote capture using Live Text are processed entirely on your device using Apple's frameworks. Photos you take for quote capture are not uploaded to us or any third party.

Purchases

Subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. We never receive your payment card details or any financial information.

No tracking

Grove contains no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking SDKs. We do not build profiles on you or share your data with advertisers.

Our website

This website, grovebooktracker.com, is a static marketing site. It uses no cookies, no analytics, and no third-party trackers, and it does not collect any personal information from visitors.

Data retention and deletion

Because your data lives on your device and, if enabled, in your own iCloud, you are in control of it at all times. You can delete individual items at any time from within the app. To remove all Grove data, delete the app from your device. If you have enabled iCloud sync, you can also remove Grove's iCloud data from your device's Settings app under your Apple ID.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Because Grove stores your data on your own device and in your own iCloud rather than on our servers, you can already access, change, and delete it yourself at any time. If you email us

If you email our support address, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use this only to respond to you and to improve Grove — never for marketing — and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Children's privacy

Grove is not directed to children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
